{"id":34,"date":"2015-12-12T22:02:38","date_gmt":"2015-12-13T03:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kb3hll.org\/?page_id=34"},"modified":"2023-02-02T23:09:04","modified_gmt":"2023-02-03T04:09:04","slug":"our-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kb3hll.org\/?page_id=34","title":{"rendered":"Our History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><big><big><big>Bald Eagle Repeater Association History<\/big><\/big><\/big><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Pre 1979:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"> \u00a0 \u00a0 The associations roots began when <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">Jay Kennedy, KN3SAS<\/span> organized a local group of two meter ham radio operators to provide each member with auto patch privileges on <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">146.94<\/span> MHz.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Jay&#8217;s idea was to have ten members at a cost of $20.00 per member to support the costs. The 146.34 \/ 94 repeater was a <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">VHF engineering repeater<\/span>, which was located at different sites and eventually ended up at it&#8217;s present site which was owned by the <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">Bald Eagle VHF Society<\/span>, located on Skyline Drive atop the Bald Eagle Mountain in South Williamsport, PA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 When Jay decided to exit the two meter repeater activity <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">Robert Shearer, N3AFX<\/span> became the repeater Trustee. Eventually meetings were held at <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">Don Cook&#8217;s, W3JVP<\/span> store on Market Street in Williamsport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">March 18, 1979:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"> \u00a0 \u00a0The semi organized club struck an agreement with <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">Mark Cohen<\/span> to buy the VHF engineering repeater from him. At this same time an aluminum 50 foot tower was erected. A home made station master type antenna was used with wacom duplexers. The club had decided on calling itself the <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">Bald Eagle Repeater Association<\/span> and began soliciting membership.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Melvin Bennett, KC3EH<\/span> was elected the first club President. <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">John Cooper, WB3JFV<\/span> was elected treasurer and <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">Ken Frey, WB3HOI<\/span> elected secretary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">July 17,1980:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"> \u00a0 \u00a0 The club received coordination approval to move the repeater frequency to 147.09 \/ 69 MHz.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">November 24,1980:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"> \u00a0 \u00a0 The clubs sister repeater received coordination approval for 145.49 \/ 89 MHz.
